I have been painting in oils for twenty years and currently live and work in McGregor, Western Cape. learned oil painting informally from Pascal Chandler and she instilled in me a fascination for paint and intense colour. I exhibited with Pascal Chandler and her students for seven years in group exhibitions. I had a successful Solo Exhibition in Durban at ArtSpace Gallery. The exhibition dealt with protecting the environment and was entitled “Loudly Standing”.
Many journeys from Durban to McGregor through the Karoo has created for me a passion for the sculptural landscapes and the endless skies . This intense light is reflected both in my portraits of Karoo women and architectural landscapes. I collect medicine bottles from Trading Stores in the Karoo and have a series of painted antique bottles that are a metaphor for the light, timelessness and fragility of the desert.
